Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania Highlights Vision for Quality, Innovation, and Sustainability at the 12th Tanzania Health Summit

Dar es Salaam, October 2025 – The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHS,T) was honoured to participate in the 12th Tanzania Health Summit, which brought together key stakeholders – policymakers, healthcare professionals and others – from across the nation on a single platform to strengthen Tanzania’s health systems. As a long-standing supporter of the Summit since its inception, AKHST’s presence this year reaffirmed its commitment to advancing quality, equitable, and sustainable healthcare across the country.

Throughout the three-day summit, AKHS,T engaged with health leaders and practitioners at its booth, sharing the organisation’s legacy of over 95 years of delivering affordable and quality care, guided by its five pillars:  Quality, Education, Access, Continuum of Care, and Partnerships. This engagement was further highlighted on Day 2, when AKHST hosted a landmark forum titled “Delivering Exceptional Quality Care: Access, Innovation, and Sustainability.”

Led by four senior physicians from the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam — Dr. Harrison Chuwa, Senior Oncologist & Medical Director; Dr. Irfan Rajput, Orthopedic Surgeon; Dr. Javed Jablani, Interventional Cardiologist; and Dr. Yaser Abdallah, Consultant Neonatologist & Assistant Professor of Paediatrics at Aga Khan University — the session explored what it truly takes to deliver exceptional healthcare in Tanzania. The speakers highlighted that quality care extends beyond treatment, requiring personalised attention, innovative technologies, and sustainability as a fundamental principle.

Framing healthcare through access, innovation, and sustainability, the AKHS,T session emphasised solutions for current challenges and future readiness. Innovation, from diagnostics to patient engagement, is key to better outcomes, while sustainability is vital for resource conservation, strengthening resilience, and ensuring benefits for future generations.

AKHST’s participation in the Summit, and particularly the forum it led, reflected the organisation’s broader role in supporting the development of Tanzania’s healthcare system. Through ongoing investments in infrastructure, clinical education, research, and community outreach — from establishing the Aga Khan Cancer Care Centre in Dar es Salaam to regional partnerships such as the East Africa Comprehensive Cancer Project (EACCP) — AKHST continues to demonstrate how locally rooted, globally informed health leadership can transform care.

As the Summit concluded, AKHST reaffirmed its vision to work alongside government and partners to foster a healthcare system that is inclusive, innovative, and patient-centred. In doing so, the organisation remains committed to ensuring that quality care is not a privilege, but a reality for every community across Tanzania.
