Aga Khan Medical Centre Launch in Kabarnet Brings Quality Healthcare Closer to Community

Kisumu September 26, 2025: Residents of Kabarnet and its surrounding areas will no longer have to travel long distances in search of quality medical services, following the official opening of the Aga Khan Medical Centre in Kabarnet. The event was attended by Hon. Joshua Kandie, MP for Baringo Central; representatives from the County Government of Baringo; officials from the Baringo County Referral Hospital; corporate stakeholders; and other healthcare partners.

Guests were warmly welcomed by the Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu team led by Chief Executive Officer Jane Wanyama, who described the centre as a “major milestone in improving access to quality, patient-centred healthcare in Kabarnet.”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the guests were given a guided tour of the new facility, allowing them to see the modern equipment, spacious consultation rooms, and patient-friendly design. In a light-hearted yet symbolic gesture, Hon. Kandie himself underwent a triage session conducted by the nurses on duty, demonstrating the efficiency and professionalism of the staff.

Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and staffed by skilled professionals, the new facility will offer a wide range of services designed to meet the healthcare needs of the local community.

This initiative aligns with Aga Khan Health Services’ broader mission to expand access to quality healthcare across Kenya and beyond. “This is not just a building, it is a promise,” said Ms. Wanyama. “A promise to deliver healthcare with compassion, excellence, and innovation, right here in Kabarnet.”

Hon. Kandie praised the launch, noting that it complements the government’s efforts to improve healthcare in Baringo County. “The people of Kabarnet will greatly benefit from this facility, and we look forward to fostering stronger partnerships to continue elevating healthcare standards,” he said. The new medical centre is expected to ease the burden on referral hospitals, reduce travel time for patients seeking specialised care, and contribute to healthier communities in the region.
