New Oncology Centre Breaks Ground in Homa Bay, Boosting Regional Cancer Care

Kisumu, Kenya, February 04, 2026: A team from The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, led by CEO Jane Wanyama, joined management from Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital to mark the official commencement of construction for the new Oncology Centre.

Under the East African Comprehensive Women Cancer Project (EA-CwCP), this initiative will transform the cancer-care landscape, offering renewed hope and improved access to treatment for thousands of families across Homa Bay and neighbouring counties.

For many patients in Homabay and surrounding counties, cancer care has meant long journeys, delayed treatment, and added financial strain. The Oncology Centre will change that situation: once completed, it will bring diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services closer to home, enabling patients to receive care within familiar support systems.

The East African Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EA-CwCP) is a health initiative by the Aga Khan Foundation, the Gates Foundation, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and Institut Curie, focused on improving cancer care for women across the region.

About The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu was established in 1952 as a private, not-for-profit institution providing primary, secondary, and tertiary health care services in Kenya.
