Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam Celebrates Six Professionals Graduating from the Developing Healthcare Leaders of Tomorrow (DHLT) Programme
Dar es Salaam, 3 September 2025 — The Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam (AKH,D) is proud to recognise the successful graduation of its healthcare professionals from the Developing Healthcare Leaders of Tomorrow (DHLT) programme. This achievement exemplifies AKH,D’s unwavering commitment to cultivating visionary, skilled, and adaptive leaders capable of addressing the dynamic healthcare challenges at local, national, and international levels.
Launched in 2022, the DHLT is a comprehensive six-month leadership development initiative administered by the Aga Khan University (AKU). The programme brings together healthcare professionals from across the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), delivering six comprehensive modules through interactive online sessions. The curriculum merges theoretical knowledge with practical application, featuring activities such as group projects, case studies, peer-to-peer learning, and dialogues with seasoned leaders from diverse regions, including Pakistan, Syria, Kenya, and Tanzania. In 2025, the programme attracted participation from over 170 healthcare professionals globally.
For the Tanzanian cohort, participation offered a valuable opportunity to refine leadership competencies and foster international peer learning. Ntiga Leonard Sende, Head Nurse for the Maternity department and one of the graduates, remarked: “The knowledge sharing was invaluable, hearing how colleagues across the Network address common challenges provided me with ideas to enhance patient care at AKH,D. I also had the opportunity to share our own experiences to support others.”
Graduates further emphasised how the programme enhanced their ability to lead with purpose, encourage problem-solving, and equipped them with the tools to foster trust and effective cross-cultural leadership. A notable session, “Leading in a New Norm,” prepared participants to adapt their leadership strategies to today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
These graduates represent a vital investment in the hospital’s future. By enhancing leadership capabilities across departments, AKH,D is positioning itself to achieve sustainable innovation, collaboration, foster collaboration and deliver high-quality healthcare services tailored to meet the needs of patients and communities. As more healthcare professionals within Aga Khan Health Services Tanzania advance their skills, the ripple effects are expected to benefit communities nationwide.
We congratulate our six distinguished graduates from Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam — Judith Kaizerege, Genniah Mboma, John Msangi, Gabriel Nyenye, Elishah Premji, and Ntiga Leonard Sende. Their commitment to professional growth and leadership development will undoubtedly translate into lasting positive impacts for the patients and communities we serve.
