The Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Receives International Distinctions for Excellence in Leadership and Environmental Responsibility at the 2025 IHF Awards


Dar es Salaam | November 21, 2025 — The International Hospital Federation (IHF) held its annual Award Ceremony on November 12, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, during the 48th World Hospital Congress. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the IHF Awards, this year’s programme attracted over 700 entries from 38 countries and territories, highlighting a diverse array of innovative and impactful hospital initiatives from around the world.


Against this global backdrop, The Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam (AKH-D) was honoured with two distinctions reflecting its dedication to strong leadership, responsible healthcare delivery, and the continuous advancement of quality services for communities in Tanzania.


  • The Bronze Award in the American College of Healthcare Executives Excellence Award for Leadership and Management.
  • An Honourable Mention in the Seddiqi Holding Excellence Award for Social and Environmental Responsibility

The Leadership and Management Excellence Award recognise institutions that demonstrate effective decision-making, a strong organizational culture, and the ability to navigate complex healthcare challenges — all essential qualities for maintaining high standards of care.


The Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam (AKH-D) received the Bronze Award in this category for its outstanding leadership in implementing the Tanzania Comprehensive Cancer Project (TCCP). This recognition reflects the hospital’s strategic vision, effective governance, and ability to unite multidisciplinary teams toward a shared goal of improving cancer care and patient outcomes in Tanzania.


The honourable mention AKHD received reflects its commitment to socially responsible activities. This includes the reconstructive surgery camps, which are conducted free for women and children who are victims of burns and violence, as well as Net-Zero 2030.
